Mara Julia Engelsberger (*1994) lives and works in Stuttgart. In 2025, she completed her MA in Body, Theory and Poetics of the Performative at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. Prior to this, she studied at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts and at Zurich University of the Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working from a position of sensitivity and resistance, Engelsberger addresses themes such as vulnerability, loss of control, violence and the reclamation of personal spaces of protection. Scar tissue becomes armour, while the body emerges as a site of both poetic and political negotiation. Her artistic practice functions as a mode of investigation, acting as a link between what has been and what is yet to come. It shapes the present while remaining detached, never standing still\u2014permeating, always entangled within itself and always intertwined with the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her recent work has been shown in group exhibitions at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, as well as in independent art spaces and galleries in Engen, Bielefeld, Zurich and Berlin.
