Arts/Industry provides the unique opportunity to explore new ideas, processes, and perspectives while creating work using the resources, technology, and materials of the Kohler Co. factory in Kohler, Wisconsin. Arts/Industry welcomes artists from all disciplines who are curious about how industrial processes and environments can shape their work. Artists-in-residence are given the time and space to pursue their creative process in studios located in Kohler Co.’s industrial foundry and pottery; they have access to cutting-edge facilities and technologies that can expand the boundaries of their practice. Experience working in metal or clay is not required.
Four artists are in residence at a time, two in the Kohler Co. pottery and two in the foundry. Residents are expected to commit to a full three-month residency period.
The emphasis of the residency is on artists using new materials and processes in a hands-on way, while building relationships with the skilled craftspeople who work for Kohler Co.
Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, industrial materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a modest weekly stipend.
