In the framework of the Future Materials programme and in collaboration with Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, the Jan van Eyck Academie is accepting applications for 2 Future Materials Fellowships in 2026. Future Materials at the Jan van Eyck Academie supports environmentally conscious art and design practices by promoting research and disseminating knowledge on sustainable materials. This long-term programme departed from the urge to find sustainable alternatives to fossil-based or toxic materials commonly used in arts and design. This new call for two Future Materials Fellows welcomes applications for projects that explore methods and practices that investigate the regenerative potential of waste. The selected Fellows will be supported by the different Labs at the Jan van Eyck Academie: Future Materials, Material Matters, Food, Printing & Publishing, Photography & Audiovisual, and the library.

Applicants with a sound artistic practice in material research are welcome to apply with an existing project to further develop during the residency period at the Jan van Eyck Academie.

The fellows will receive a monthly stipend of €1,750 and a working budget of €2,250. The stipend is 80% exempt from income tax.The selected candidates will receive access to a private studio and the expertise of the Labs, in-house experts, and (guest) advisers and will be able to participate and contribute to the academy’s public programme.
