The Fellowship ‘Moving objects, Mobilising Culture’ enables researchers and heritage practitioners from formerly colonised countries to access and conduct research on (collections of) objects – whether defined as cultural, historical, ancestral, art or otherwise – which are currently (lost) in the Netherlands, as well as on related archives and documentation. The Fellowship Moving objects, Mobilising Culture hosts two fellowships in the academic year 2025 – 2026 (September 2025 to end January 2026). The duration of the fellowships is five months each.

Personal stipends are offered to fellows without an affiliation and fellows from outside the Netherlands.

Fellows are granted a monthly stipend of 3,500 EUR per month (exceptions apply for some of the supported fellowships). Additional financial support for fellows from low income countries can be requested. NIAS covers travel expenses (between 0.25 EUR per kilometre for those within 500 km of Amsterdam and 1,500 EUR for those living outside Europe). NIAS also offers subsidised accommodation.
