Sandberg Instituut invites artists, designers, researchers, makers and educators to propose a Temporary Department, for which they would take on the role of Head of Department for the period September 2027 – July 2029. For this edition, they are looking for proposals that engage with the archive as a contemporary artistic, social, political and pedagogical framework. 

Applicants must have experience in teaching and education and have an established independent professional practice. They must either be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate for the duration of the programme.

If the proposal is selected, the artist would take on the position of Head of the Temporary Department. This position is on a freelance basis and is equivalent to approximately two days per week over two academic years (September 2027 – July 2029) + allocated hours for the development of the curriculum (October 2026 – July 2027). The approximate daily rate for this position is € 553,60.  A budget for core tutors and guest contributors, a dedicated department coordinator + administrative support, Institutional infrastructure and guidance during the development and implementation of the curriculum are provided.
