The Sigg Fellowship for Chinese Art Research 2024/25 aims to support innovative research on Chinese contemporary art, particularly focusing on the interplay between art and its sites from the 1990s to early 2000s. It emphasizes the significance of various locations in shaping artistic expression and curatorial practices, exploring under-researched areas within art history. The fellowship encourages a dialogue with the M+ Collections, fostering new perspectives on contemporary art in the region.
The fellowship is open to individuals or research groups of any nationality, with no age restrictions. Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant field or an undergraduate degree along with at least three years of related professional or academic experience. Proficiency in Chinese or English is required, and candidates must be able to obtain a visa for Hong Kong. Proposals should be for new research or expansions of unpublished work, with preference given to entirely new projects.
The fellowship provides a grant of 200,000 HKD to cover expenses such as travel, living costs, and research-related expenses. Fellows will have access to the M+ Collections, engage in discussions with curators, and conclude their fellowship with a public lecture and a published essay. The fellowship duration is between three to six months, and selected candidates will be notified in early 2025.
