Since 2014, The Image Centre has offered a variety of fellowships for art and research related to photography. The Image Center offers two fellowships for artists: The Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship for Artistic Research and the Wendy Snyder MacNeil Research Fellowship. Candidates’ research should utilise the collections and resources of The Image Centre and/or Toronto Metropolitan University Archives and Special Collections in support of their artistic practic and propose creative methodologies and outputs. The selected fellow will be expected to carry out research on-site  for a minimum of one (1) to a maximum of four (4) weeks, July 1st, 2026 and January 15, 2027. Applicants should discuss with the IMC Research Program Coordinator the feasibility of their project prior to applying.

Candidates may hold any level of education, and/or be independent artists with relevant experience and demonstrated interests. 

The Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship for Artistic Research includes a $4,000 (CAD) stipend. The Wendy Snyder MacNeil Research Fellowship includes a $2,500 (CAD) stipend. Fellows are expected to pay the cost of travel and accommodation in Toronto.
