Alex Besta
Mentee: Raphael Sbrzesny
Alex Besta (*1983) lives and works as an artist and curator in Karlsruhe. She studied scenography, product design and art research at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
Alex Besta develops multimedia compositions and conceptual spaces. She transfers theoretical research and personal explorations into an artistic-abstract and physically experiential language. The sociological, scientific or poetic writings that serve as her foundation are reorganised by Besta and translated into soundscapes, objects, images or cinematic elements to culminate in an overall concept that embraces an entire space. An interest in the emergence of social orders and aesthetic phenomena, always with regard to their historical and social context, is an essential component of her art and can be found in all of her works.
Her projects have been displayed numerous times, such as on the art platforms of ato, Berlin/Karlsruhe, at Kunstverein EBENE B1, Frankfurt am Main, at the ßpace Project Room, Karlsruhe, at theartape, Karlsruhe and at the Videonale Bonn. In 2021, she received a scholarship from Künstlerhaus Eisenhammer and is currently a fellow at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. She is currently a scholarship holder at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris.
In addition to her artistic activities, she has also been working as the artistic director and manager of the Kunstverein Wilhelmshöhe Ettlingen since 2024.
