Mentee: Susanne Kriemann
Boglárka Balassa (*1991) lives and works in Karlsruhe. She studied fine arts and painting at the University of Pécs in Hungary, the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, and at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe.
Boglárka Balassa’s multimedia artwork is often characterised by the exploration of materials and a depiction of temporality. They are based on the observation of breathing. The handwoven pieces used in her expansive installations are ‘coloured’ by unconscious impulses and the current state of the mind, and only then are they woven into one entity. Woven materials have a life cycle: they become old and worn, like all living things – for the artist they symbolise temporality and transitoriness.
Boglárka Balassa’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and she taken part in artist residency programmes in, for example, Villány, Hungary.
