Karolina Sobel Karolina Sobel (*1987) lives and works in Karlsruhe. She studied at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. She also has a master’s degree in urban studies from the Technical University Darmstadt, studied social sciences at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris as well as visual arts at the Iuav University of Venice.
Her interests include different modes of representation of social issues such as identity, the process of building communities, social exclusion and hierarchies. For her work, she looks for other methods of presentation that allow her to expand further on multiple levels of discourse. In utilising various mediums with a documentary approach, the line between fiction and reality is blurred. She uses photography as a tool for visual research in her work.
In 2020 Karolina Sobel was a scholarship recipient of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and in 2021/22 she was awarded a scholarship from the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. She has been a member of the Archive of Public Protest since 2020.
