Lizzy Ellbrück
Mentee: Sofia Hultén
Lizzy Ellbrück (*1990) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Technical University in Berlin and Berlin University of the Arts as well as the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
IHer artistic practice is characterised by dedicated oscillation: She juggles with language, manoeuvres through disciplines, balances objects and attributions and critically engages with the act of making, the gesture of displaying and the politics of the gaze.
She develops her polymorphic practice through interdisciplinary approaches that are influenced by processes of visual culture, pop culture phenomena and aesthetic experiences, and mostly follows material and site-specific parameters. They utilise parafictional strategies, practices of deconstruction and methods of reinterpretation. Her works are often based on the perception of everyday motives, habitual gestures and established myths, and express hyper-precise to dilettantish techniques and speculative scenarios.
Current projects explore (metaphorical) nesting on the basis of traces of locality and souvenirs of familiarity or include the emancipatory opportunity for action in domestic space as a productive site.
Lizzy Ellbrück’s work has been shown in solo presentations at the Badischer Kunstverein Karlsruhe and the Kunstverein Bruchsal, as well as in international group exhibitions. She will take up her scholarship at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris this coming fall of 2024.
