Mirjam Walter
Mentee: Kalin Lindena
Mirjam Walter (*1993) lives and works in Freiburg. She Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg under Michael Hakimi and Susanne Kühn and completed a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting under Jutta Koether at the Academy of Fine Arts Hamburg.
Mirjam Walter works with various media that take shape through the body, or more specifically, the hand. The theme that can be found throughout her artistic work is life within the human body. For example, the performance “I, A HYPHEN”, which was created in 2024 in collaboration with Julia Hainz, deals with the (re)production of violence through hegemonic language and poses the question of whether poetic/painterly or physical expression can counteract the injuries caused by language.
Mirjam Walter has been involved in the production of various performances, group exhibitions and collaborative projects in institutions such as Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Hamburg, the Kunstverein in Hamburg as well as Off-spaces such as the Golden Pudel Club, Hinterconti Hamburg and Edel Extra Nuremberg. In 2021, she conceived the exhibition “unheim” together with Tomasz Skibicki at the Kunstbunker Nuremberg. In the same year, her first artist’s book “I AM NO BODY LIKE A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME” was published by Hamman von Mier Verlag.
