Xy June Li (*1988) lives and works in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. She holds an MA in International Literatures from the University of Tübingen and studied Fine Art at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.

Language as a form of agency lies at the core of her practice. Through video, installation, performance, painting and publication, she examines how reality is narrated, who holds the authority to write history, and how power operates within narrative systems such as bureaucracies, archives and artificial intelligence. By engaging with the materiality of language itself, Li intervenes in our perception of reality. This fictional intervention enables her current work to experiment with perceptions of time, to play with past and future, critique institutions and reflect on colonial histories.

Since 2026, she has been a research associate in the Critical Faculties research project at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. She has received the Shift Scholarship Stuttgart and participated in the Rise Leadership Programme in Berlin. In 2027, she will begin a residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris.
