Anike Joyce Sadiq
Mentee: Carmen Westermeier
Anike Joyce Sadiq (*1985) lives and works in Berlin. She studied Visual Art under Birgit Brenner and Intermedia Art under Discoteca Flaming Star at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.
Her artistic practice balances along the lines of performative-poetic and minimalist conceptual approaches. In her installations she uses video, sculpture, sound, music and text. Her works interweave questions revolving around marginalised positions within a dominant culture with the specific historical, social and spatial factors. She explores various dimensions of representation, both artistic and political. This is in regards to embodied knowledge and an examination of the role of image politically.
Her work is also concerned with the ways in which social dynamics, intersectionality and perspectives of differences within institutional structures are (not) addressed. An important part of her practice is the collaboration with other artists, musicians and performers.
Anike Joyce Sadiq’s work has been shown in different national and international exhibitions, and she has been awarded several prizes and scholarships. www.anikejoycesadiq.net
